2.9 LitRPG book reviews

Image
Lit RPG genre has been around longer than you might realize. In recent years it has enjoyed a new trend in the market and the books are gaining fame. Anime and manga are full of the virtual adventures but the concept has been out for a long time. Now with ready player one about to hit cinema, we will be seeing a trend explosion i expect. Today I am going to review two books in this genre. Both are in the top sellers of Amazon however there is one big fundamental difference between the two. Awaken online are young adult. Viridian gate is Adult. This means while they share genre, core target audience is separate. I am a big fan of this genre. It is safe to say i have probably read most manga and watched every anime with it since .hack//sign and lain. Western approach had only recently caught up for me so now I can enjoy a lot more. Awaken online:Catharsis. By Travis Bagwell So this was the first of the new litRPG I picked up.  It was top of the lists on Goodreads and

2.8 Query Success For This Little Birdie

For the folk who want to read the pure stats of this process: This is a NaNoWriMo novel from 2017. I went through 2 heavy edits/revisions before beginning to querying it mid-December 2017. Twitter Pitches: #Pitmad (2 bites), #IWSGPIT (4 bites) Number of queries: 32 Number of requests for full: 7 Number of Form rejections: 16 Number of custom rejections: 4 Revise and Resubmit: 2 Number of offers: 4 I submitted mostly to small press and a few select agents. I know that ideally you want to go one or the other, however as someone with no writing cred behind me, I was happy to spread everywhere. This may not be the best approach for everyone, and certainly it might harm you later on if you wanted to go with an agent and end up signing with an agent who eventually gets you a small-press deal. Approach this cautiously- do a lot of research! I have to make my decision today, between four offers, and it is a very tough choice to make! So at the time of writing this I am lo

2.7 BIG NEWS!

Last night I finished a LitRPG book and expect a review on that soon, but in the meantime, please, hold on to your knickers. In the next day or so, I am going to have BIG NEWS. You know what a querying author means when they say this. I am ecstatic, over the moon, but also, very, very hush-hush until it's all finalised and I can let the cat out of the bag for real.

2.6 The NaNo Tale

Small details  For a change, I will be sharing a little about myself. Someone told me recently that there isn't a lot of information on me as a writer, and I was a little surprised, "Surely there's plenty!" Then I looked at my information pages and realized in an effort to stay interesting and cute, I'd neglected to share some more personal details. Today I'm going to talk a little about myself. Please forgive the self-indulgence. I started writing seriously when I was about 13. I tried to stop writing once when I was about 23, it 100% did not take (nor did the discipline to put down the pen last longer than a few months.) During the years 13 to 20, I wrote a bit over 100 different fanfictions. I am an advocate of public schooling over private, as my own education was public. I think that while we had fewer resources, we had more passionate teachers. I know two particular English teachers I owe a life and love of words to. When I was 14, I met Ms Ca

The Pile So I am staring at my to-read-pile. My roomie calls hers 'the pile of shame' for it is a pile of books she intends to read but hasn't gotten around to yet. I'm not ashamed that I haven't read these books yet; reading can take significant emotional investment. Some of my to-read pile is 'heavy' Some of it is going to require me to be focused, committed, concentrating. Like a sports event. You can't start a book you want to read in the wrong gear. Most of the books I start and finish are shorter, full of quick pacing, light touches and an overall brevity and finishability to them. I like cozy mysteries, short romances and quick action-adventures. They are my basic book-diet. I can finish these novels in a day or two and feel refreshed, achieved and normally they leave me perky and upbeat. I'll never understand why some people try to consume only the heaviest, deepest novels or those who find these stories 'fads or pulp.' I,
